Polo Planned enhancement part 2

Polo Planned enhancement part 2

Third modification - Bigger wheels

In Singapore, the Polo comes in 3 variants; they are the base Polo, Polo Sports and the little pocket rocket Polo GTi. The  former two are equipped with VAG's 1.2 liter TSi engine while the latter comes with a VAG 1.4 liter Twin charge engine. All of them use the DSG7 as the standard drivetrain.

Of course, the amount of cash you are willing to part with gets you different levels of equipment. For Polo Sports, it comes with an 105 Hp engine, RCD 310 head unit, steering wheel control for the audio, basic white MFD and a bit of aluminum finishings for the air vents, headlight control knob as well as the aircon control knobs.

Number Plate Retention

Number Plate Retention

Read this if you want to retain your existing number plate!

I was faced with a dilemma while I was transiting from the old car with the new. In fact I was contemplating on giving up the familiar car plate number which was with me for the last 9 years. It has a hard decision especially since the old plate held sentimental values.

The dilemma started because I was unsure if I can get to retain the existing car plate number since it was under my dad's name. While I was at the VW showroom,  I was told that I can't transfer the plate under my name.

After almost 2 months of driving the Polo, I must say that it really delivers and performs as advertised. However me being ME and to my lovely wifey's dismay, I was not able to resist the lure of the DARK side. Therefore, the car will not stay in stock condition for long. Warranty issues aside, I have been a really bad boy, surfing websites to source for aftermarket parts.

However to my disappointment, there ain't much aftermarket parts available for modifications  in Singapore. So I have to take the next step and look outside of Singapore and look at the EU countries such as Germany, England, Poland, etc to build my poison list.

Volkswagen Up! featured in World's tightest parallel park

Volkswagen Up! featured in World's tightest parallel park

Repost from German Car Blog : World's tightest parallel park!

VW is now the holder of the tightest parallel parking record.

" German stunt driver Ronny Wechselberger managed to slide a Volkswagen Up! into a space of just 12 feet and 0.88 inches. Given that the three-door Up! takes up a full 11 feet and 7.37 inches of space itself, the remaining room front and rear was less than the length of a Bic pen. The margin makes the Mini effort seem down right spacious by comparison. Ronny C’ Rock, as the stuntman is also known, pulled off the feat at Flugplatz Kindel in Eisenach, Germany. "

Storage Space in Polo

Storage Space in Polo

As we know, the Polo is a sub compact to begin with. Hence, its smaller boot space might be a concern for some car owners. In fact, I have quite a number of stuffs to store  in the car and it might a challenging task to fit them in the Polo.

In order to boost the storage space, the Polo boot is designed as a double layer or "twin level" storage compartment, separated by a fibre board.

To keep my things organized, I had to scout around for a suitable organizer since the Polo booth compartment does not comes with one. In addition, those featured in the VW catalogue are not cheap either!!

I shall blog in detail about our car collection process and my thoughts for the benefit of those who wishes to know what to expect on the day of car collection. So here it goes..

Wait for THE call...

For us, we waited for the shipment which takes about 2 months. So, we were really excited when at last, Volkswagen Singapore confirmed the collection date. My wife and I excitedly met up after work and proceeded straight to the showroom in Alexander.

Paper works

Prior collecting the car, you have to verify the paper works first. Our sales representative patiently went through the details,  car warranty as well as the checklist with us.

Polo Wonderland

Polo Wonderland

How it all started...

I have been bugged by wifey to chronicle my journey with our new car, Volkswagen Polo 1.2 Tsi DSG. Humm…how should I document ways to enhance the car's performance, handling and so on?
Anyway, given all the feedbacks and stuff that were said in the local forum, you must be wondering whether if I am crazy to jump onto a VW wagon…anyway..

History

As I was saying... a little background about my driving experience.  :)

I got my license way back in September 1995, some 17 years again! Ever since that faithful day, I had a total 4 cars, excluding the Polo.

For those who are looking at the local review for Volkswagen Polo Sport 1.2 TSI, this is a fairly good writeup from burnpavement.com.
To summarise, Volkswagen Polo won the 2010 Car of the Year in the B segment, after putting up with a close fight with Toyota iQ.
Extremely well made with posh and lush interior finishing, it is a really sight to behold. Furthermore, equipped with a highly efficient and with torque 1.2 TSI engine, it is - as what my HB has happily verified - zippy with its fluid shifting seven-speed DSG which guarantees a smooth driving experience.
Btw, the article comes with crisp clear photos too! Enjoy! :)

Fewer COEs for small cars for the next 6 months

Fewer COEs for small cars for the next 6 months

We have just read the yahoo news report on the reduction of Certificates Of Entitlement (COEs) for small car buyers over the coming half a year.

Yes, this is taking place when the demand for cars shows no sign of abating.

It is not rocket science to figure out that the COE prices for small car category will most probably climb - once again. Which means that, most likely outcome is that the price of the COE will outstrip the cost of the car!

When this happens, the would be buyers of the small car category would most logically go for the big car category. And this inevitably inflate the overall COE prices for the big car category.
In sort, this COE system is not sustainable and will spiral out of control, rendering car-ownership further out of reach for average Singaporeans. :(

Introducing The Polo Sport

Introducing The Polo Sport

We chose Flash Red for our new ride and this prompted my HB to term our new ride as the Little Red Riding Hood. Somehow, the nick kinda stuck and thus I decided to come up with a blog to chronicle her exciting new adventures. :)

Generally, I thought the car is quite alright but it is just that...her wheels look so puny! Maybe I am too used to seeing big wheels on our 10 year old Subaru STi, which my HB had so cruelly sent to scrap. :(
