Car Washing Device - 14L CBS</h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was hunting for a suitable portable washing device to perform some light cleaning in between my car wash. The device has to be relatively cheap, easy to operate and carry minimally 10 liters of water.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are a couple of options for me to choose from: ranging from garden water pumps to the more sophisticated car washing devices are usually battery operated. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
However, although the garden water pump is cheap, its capacity is too small (the maximum I can find is 5 liters of water). I do not wish to make multiple trips to refill the water and thus, I decided to focus on the car washing devices.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After much research, I realized that those the ones that are battery operated is too expensive (around $120 and above) and the maximum capacity is still small 5 liters. Nonetheless, after much hit and misses I managed to locate this: 14 Liters CBS portable pressure car washer (non-battery operated) equipped with air pressure gauge and footpads . Here is a short vid to demonstrate the product I am referring to.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/sWq9TU8WSk8?feature=player_detailpage" width="640"></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Giant is also selling a similar device: SSM 8L WASHER KIT at around $60 bucks. However, 14 Liters CBS portable car washer is only retailing at $69.90 (sale price at limited time $59.90) at <a href="http://list.qoo10.sg/item/14L-CBS-CAR-WASHING-DEVICE/410496682?sellerview=on" target="_blank">Qoo Singapore</a>! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I placed an order for this device last night and to my pleasant surprise, the product is delivered today! Here are some of the photos of the actual product. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
Now the question on everyone's mind: Does this product deliver as promised?<br />
<br />
1 am pleased to say that the material and make of the device is fairly sturdy. The water pressure is fairly strong (as what is illustrated below by other CBS owners) and is suitable for <b>light</b> car wash.<br />
<br />
One tank is more than enough for a session of light car wash and my wife can use the leftovers to wash the windows, window ledges, toilets and also water the plants and flowers. Which means this device can have multiple home interior usage too! :)<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
It's been quite awhile since I have updated my blog. During this period, several enhancements have been done to my Red Riding Hood. Other than the rear sway bar, I have bought a Ignition Project coil pack, a Forge atmospheric dump valve kit, Eibach Pro kit lowering springs and a pair of rare Volkswagen approved Polo 6R MS Design Daytime Running Lights (DRL)!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<strong>Pimping my ride</strong><br />
-Volkswagen approved Polo 6R MS Design Daytime Running Lights (DRL)-<br />
Before I blog on the rest of these items, allow me to cover on the DRLs first which were freshly installed last week. Sometime in June 2013, I decided on getting a set of DRLs for the car and Thus, i embarked on a long search for these. Although the Internet is a great source where i can find a lot of interesting pictures and websites, i am still hesitant on getting them since i am still unsure on the make and quality of those DRLs. In addition, there were mixed reviews about these DRLs which also replace the fog lights.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a><br />
<strong>Alternatives</strong><br />
Other than the most expensive option of the original Polo 6R GTI Xenon headlights with built-in DRLs, there are other direct headlight replacements for the car available. These are namely DRLs from the "Sonic Racing" and " Dayline". These are actually modeled after the original GTI Xenons except that they use normal halogen bulbs. <br />
<br />
<strong>Sonic Racing</strong><br />
From the website pictures, The DRLs from the "Sonic Racing" range looks bright. however, I am unsure whether these will dim when the headlights or pole lights are switched on. <br />
<br />
<strong>Dayline</strong><br />
as for the Dayline range, the DRLs are the plug and play type so these lights make use of the original lights sockets. You may wonder how the DRLs light up if they are using the original sockets. In fact, the built in LEDs are not DRLs per se. They only light up when the light control switch in the cabin is switched on to pole lights. So in order to have the effect of lighting up, the switch must be left in the pole light position. Hence, I was a little disappointed. <br />
<br />
<strong>Retrofit DRLs</strong><br />
Nonetheless, All is not lost as while I was surfing in eBay, I finally came across a set of retrofit DRLs specifically designed and manufactured for the Polo 6R.! In fact, It was posted for sale by an VAG agent in Germany. At that time, they were having a summer sale and these set of lights were put up on auction. Fortunately,after a few days of nerve wracking and anxious wait, I was finally announced the bidding winner! Furthermore, these set of original lights were much cheaper than what was listed in the Volkswagen website in UK. <br />
<br />
These set of lights came with wiring harnesses, a pair of DRLs as well as the mounting instructions, EU approved certificate, a mounting template and a couple of cable ties. The installation of these lights were quite straight forward. however, holes must be cut out from the bumper. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a><br />
<strong>Installation Steps</strong><br />
The steps taken to install them are as follows:<br />

<strong>After Thoughts</strong><br />
After installation and using them for the past week, I must say that this is one of the best investment which I had ever made to the car. The quality and built of these lights are top notch and can even be passed off as the originals from the factory. They are bright when viewed from a certain angle so as to reduce glare for other road users and really work as advertised. I do not have any problems using them and they are really a beauty and a piece of art!<br />

<h2>
Forth modification - The hunt for the Head Unit</h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
When I take
delivery of the car, I was wondering if the <b>RCD 310</b> was iPod friendly.
To my dismay, I could only connect my iPod through the AUX. As days
passed, I found that this was not a very good way whereby the forwarding
of a track was concerned when I was driving. Furthermore, there was no
built in GPS and the OE VW Bluetooth add on costs an arm and leg. Thus
the search was on for a Headunit which could fulfill my requirement.</div>
<a name='more'></a>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I
short listed 2 OE VW Headunit. They are the <b>RCD </b>and <b>RNS 510</b>. These 2
sets had both pros and cons. For the RCD, it has got the best sound
quality among the VW head units however, in order to customize,
additional module has to be add on or a recoding is necessary.
Furthermore, these upgrades does not come cheap!<br />
<br />
For the <i>RNS</i>, it
is a little difficult to procure from the used market. If one managed to
find one, the individual must be an OE look diehard fan. Why do I say
that? It is because with the kind of resale price this HU is commanding,
I can say that there are many other better choices to choose from.
Nevertheless, the RNS comes with built in GPS. <br />
<br />
Faced with these
options, I am wondering if there would be a HU which have a built in
GPS, play DVD, built in Bluetooth, IPod connectivity and the works but
would not cost an arm and leg. Hmmm.... Actually there are such units in
existence. However, they are made in China. I was a little skeptical at
first for there made quality but I really needed to see these units
with my eyes. Therefore, I made some initial inquire about the
compatibility with the Polo and to my surprise, they are and they can be
controlled with the controls from the steering wheel. Oh yes, I
forgot.... They are branded Road Emperor and Fly Audio. </div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Depending
on the requirements, the <b>road Emperor</b> unit has the above stated
functions plus Web surfing capability. However, the built quality of
this unit is average. Next, the <b>Fly Audio</b> unit has no web surfing
option. However, it has close to OE built quality and the sound quality
is not bad either. I thus chose the Fly Audio unit and never look back. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Now.... Where is my Anti roll bar? Time to contact HAT. Stay tuned for part 3......</div>

<h3>
Electronic Toxins in Automobiles</h3>
Automobiles contain a
variety of toxic substances that can enter your body through your skin
and by breathing. Inside of your car, heavy metals and other toxins,
including mercury, cesium, cadmium and barium are contained within the
electronic components of the vehicle. These toxins are primarily within
the microchips and liquid crystal display (LCD) screens found on your
dashboard and on accessories such as portable geographic positioning
system (GPS) units. <br />
The plastics in your vehicle, which make up
your dashboard, console, storage compartments, covering of your steering
wheel, and components of your vehicle's carpeting, floor mats and
safety belts may contain bisphenol A (BPA), which is an endocrine
disruptor that can cause hormonal problems when it enters your
bloodstream. The heat of the sun can leach this chemical out of the
plastics, as can scratches and dings caused by everyday use.<br />

<h3>
More on Protecting Yourself During Mechanical Work</h3>
<img alt="auto repair" class="floatright" src="http://www.mesothelioma.com/images/blog/posts/auto-repair.jpg" width="210" />When
doing any type of mechanical work on your vehicle, personal safety
protection is key in avoiding or reducing exposure to the toxins in your
automobile. Work in a well-ventilated area. While doing the work, place
goggles on your eyes and wear a facemask to avoid breathing in fibers
and particles that contain toxic substances. “Jewelry should never be
worn when working with mechanical equipment of any kind, including when
working with automobiles.” Wear long sleeved shirts and pants, as well
as gloves that protect your hands. Do not eat or drink until you have
thoroughly washed your hands.<br />

<h3>
Protecting Yourself Inside of the Vehicle</h3>
As
a driver, you may spend many hours every week inside of your vehicle.
This frequent exposure to toxins can adversely affect your health,
although there are ways you can protect yourself inside of your
automobile. Avoid using chemical air fresheners or cleaners inside of
your car. These can damage the plastics and release toxins. Replace
plastic floor mats with wool carpets. On hot days, attempt to park in
the shade and leave your windows slightly down to allow the heat to
dissipate, reducing the leaching of BPA from the plastics. If the
upholstery in your car becomes damaged, take your vehicle to an
automobile repair shop to repair the upholstery so none of the fibers
escape into the air that you breathe in while driving.<br />

All car enthusiasts’, develop a vision that one day he or she will

rides whether a classic, muscle, tuner, import, exotic, or supercar,

<h3>
There Might Be More Under The Hood Than You Bargained For!</h3>
<img alt="car repair" class="floatright" src="http://www.mesothelioma.com/images/blog/posts/car-repair.jpg" width="175" />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Many
enthusiasts have a passion to work on and manually install parts in
their car. Certain parts may be easier to install than others, such as
brake pads. An avid do-it-yourselfer might feel no need to send their
vehicle to a professional auto mechanic as they’re confident enough to
fix it on their own. However, many people don't know that car parts may
carry toxins such as asbestos, especially when found in older cars.
Certain parts including brake pads, hood liners, clutch assemblies are
common places where asbestos can be found. If a person does not take
safety precautions before working on their vehicles, they will could
develop health issues in the future that can be fatal. Being exposed to
asbestos can lead to the development of <a href="http://www.mesothelioma.com/mesothelioma/">mesothelioma</a>, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.<br />

Ok, But How About New Cars?</h3>
There
are many toxins in newer car models as well. The following are
substances often used within plastics and interior components of newer
autos.<br />
<ul>
<li>Bromine</li>
<li>Benzene</li>
<li>PBDE’s</li>
<li>Phthalates</li>
</ul>
According to the article published by <a href="http://www.ecocenter.org/sites/default/files/campaigns/cleancar/docs/ToxicAtAnySpeed.pdf">The Ecology Center</a>, these toxins have been related to serious health problems. In fact, they report that these toxins among others can cause:<br />
<blockquote>
<i>“birth
defects, impaired learning, liver toxicity, premature births, and early
puberty in laboratory animals, among other serious health problems.”</i></blockquote>
When
working on your car, take safety precautions. When changing parts,
especially on older and classic cars, one must make sure he or she is
protected. The most important gear one should use is a facemask to
decrease the chances of inhaling dangerous toxins. Latex gloves and
goggles can also help avoid contact with harmful substances. Oh, and
don't forget to maintain a clean workspace, to prevent others from
inadvertantly coming into contact with toxins!<br />

Before I start sharing on asbestos-related posts for my subsequent posts, let me explain to you why exposure to asbestos is very dangerous. Basically, they causes cancer. And prevention is better than cure. This picture gives a comprehensive infographic illustration on the dangers of asbestos. <br />

<h3>
Third modification - Bigger wheels</h3>
<br />
In Singapore, the Polo comes in 3 variants; they are the base Polo, Polo Sports and the little pocket rocket Polo GTi. The former two are equipped with VAG's 1.2 liter TSi engine while the latter comes with a VAG 1.4 liter Twin charge engine. All of them use the DSG7 as the standard drivetrain.<br />
<br />
Of course, the amount of cash you are willing to part with gets you different levels of equipment. For Polo Sports, it comes with an 105 Hp engine, RCD 310 head unit, steering wheel control for the audio, basic white MFD and a bit of aluminum finishings for the air vents, headlight control knob as well as the aircon control knobs.<br />

<h3>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<a name='more'></a> </h3>
<h3>
It is all about wheels</h3>
Ok, next lets look at the wheels. For the wheels, the Polo comes with VW 16 inch Navarre rims.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/polo-v/explore/gallery/16" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLyqsOkEGdt6Ao7xgB9K1GoGIHT_5vO0CL04F5kzA6mu3yublUoQJG_KI6XizS_atBIn4qi2trzuHtxdMjlBGFM3W0wd0R8ruvNG20Ck1dJ1xwlCVGpm_tJtCsh4aOwK-ypq9HKVe7bS8/s1600/navarre+rims.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/polo-v/explore/gallery/16" target="_blank">This rim came with the car</a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I was pretty satisfied with the rims, that is until I hand washed the car. Imagine how much effort and time is spent on just scrubbing those multi spoke rims!<br />
<br />
Therefore, I made up my mind to change the wheels. The main criterion for the new set of rims is that the design should be more fuss free and easier to wash.<br />
<br />
Thus, I scoured the web for a set of nice looking wheels and my search turns up the following:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://media-cache-lt0.pinterest.com/upload/134967320054001811_jG5L97LF_c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" src="http://media-cache-lt0.pinterest.com/upload/134967320054001811_jG5L97LF_c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pinterest.com/divasan/vw-rims/">http://pinterest.com/divasan/vw-rims/</a></div>
<br />
I reminded myself not to be over jealous - well since this is just a 1.2 liter car after all. However, if it was the more powerful cousin like the Golf...that will be a different story...<br />
<br />
Hence, I decided that a set of 17 inch wheels would strike a nice balance between aesthetics and performance. Luckily, the Polo is using PCD of 100 so there is quite a wide range of selection and these included the Japanese rims.<br />
<br />
Although a few sets of rims caught my eyes, I managed to narrow my selection down to then VW's 17 inch Boavista rims which have 5 spokes and most importantly, pretty stock looking.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<h3>
The hunt for THE wheels</h3>
After making that decision, the hunt is finally on!<br />
<br />
I discovered that VW's 17 inch Boavista rims are optional so there it is pretty hard to find used ones in the market. Nonetheless, my search finally ended at the industrial estate in Paya Ubi where a trusty tyre shop, Leong Seng tyres & automotive is located.<br />
<br />
I was pretty disappointed when the initial search was fruitless. And even I was open to alternatives, they were either too expensive, incorrect offset or fugly. Just when I and my wife was leaving, the boss asked if we were keen to take a look at a set of one day old cross Polo 17 inches Budapest rims.<br />
<br />
Lady luck was really shining upon us that day! To my absolute delight,
the set was pretty close to what I had in mind; 5 spokes, PCD 100 and
the correct offset. These set of wheels were a great fit and are flushed
with the fenders. Hence, I traded in my brand new 700 km old set of
rims for these at a reasonable price, and did I mention that these
lovely rims comes with Bridgestone MY02 tyres which were just
launched?! <br />

Review for the new wheels</h3>
<br />
After having travelled 4600km with these set of tyres and rims, I have to comment that they stay within my expectations since I am used to tyres which are more slick.<br />
<br />
Nonetheless, I got a nice surprise when I found out that this combination was actually similar to the Worthersee concept which was launched way back in 2009!<br />
<br />
Aside from that, my wifey is delighted that now, I spend shorter time for the car wash... :)<br />
<br />
Do stay tuned for my post on the next modification...<b>.the head unit</b>!<br />

Number Plate Retention</h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Read this if you want to retain your existing number plate!<br />
<br />
I was faced with a dilemma while I was transiting from the old car with the new. <b>I</b>n fact I was contemplating on giving up the familiar car plate number which was with me for the last 9 years. It has a hard decision especially since the old plate held sentimental values.<br />
<br />
The dilemma started because I was unsure if I can get to retain the existing car plate number since it was under my dad's name. While I was at the VW showroom, I was told that I can't transfer the plate under my name.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a>However after much deliberation, I decided to try my luck from LTA and stated my reasons in retaining the car plate number.<br />
<br />
A week or so passed by and I was pleasantly surprised when LTA responded. All I needed to do is provide documentation proof of father and son relationship. In addition, I need to pay S$1300.00 for the number plate retention fee. The next step is for the VW agent to submit the sales agreement to prove that I am the new car owner.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
When all these have been verified, a sum of S$1200.00 will be refunded when the new car is registered. In short, if everything went smoothly, all I need to pay is S$100 for the number retention!</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nonetheless, do note that the number plate was only retained for the initial 6 months. And, if the retained car plate number was not used to register for the new car which I had indicated within this period, LTA will forfeit the S$1300.00 paid and stuck off this plate in the registry .<br />

However do note of the following<br />
- If you wish to extend to a longer period, you have to pay additional for the extension.<br />
- You will need to pay a fee of S$1300.00 if you are purchasing a secondhand car</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Part of the documentations needed include an original copy of birth certificate, original identity cards and sales agreement letter. </div>

- You have to personally make a trip down to LTA in person before they finally approve the transfer.</div>

Anyway to cut the long story short, the entire process at LTA takes less than 30 mins and I was a really happy person that day.<br />
<br />
Last but not least, I have to thank LTA as well as my VM sales representative for making this retention possible. At least a part of my old car is with me now. </div>

Polo Planned enhancements part 1</h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6qpYtaQgFKlVaOc6bxU0fwyx96NqGkKtuUFrb3VbUaCi-CLFSL7vTQoH45K3rjBF2I0IZmNWKsknT11y3lkFgEF-P2IxnjPkpi-5RhOzeRXGqbG0s31tVXnItJDYWG4WfMAjJUimujV4/s1600/tail+gate.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After almost 2 months of driving the Polo, I must say that it really delivers and performs as advertised. However me being ME and to my lovely wifey's dismay, I was not able to resist the lure of the DARK side. Therefore, the car will not stay in stock condition for long. Warranty issues aside, I have been a really bad boy, surfing websites to source for aftermarket parts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However to my disappointment, there ain't much aftermarket parts available for modifications in Singapore. So I have to take the next step and look outside of Singapore and look at the EU countries such as Germany, England, Poland, etc to build my poison list.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
So far, I have only managed to order and installed some parts from my poison list. Nevertheless, let me share what I have found so far.</div>
<ol>
<li>Superpro bushings</li>
<li>Whiteline rear sway bar</li>
<li>Air filter</li>
<li>Sports pedals</li>
<li>Eibach pro kit</li>
<li>OE looking aftermarket head unit</li>
<li>Rims</li>
<li>Forge dump valve kit</li>
<li>Tail gate garnish</li>
<li>Exhaust finisher</li>
<li>Aftermarket exhaust</li>
<li>Aftermarket coil pack</li>
<li>Aftermarket engine mount</li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Bear in mind that some of the parts featured above in my poison list must be ordered from overseas!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ok, Let the fun begin!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u><b>First modification - the VW OE tailgate garnish</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While I was patiently waiting for the delivery of the car, I surfed the net daily in order to find parts for the car modifications. The first I chanced upon was some OE replacement parts from Oriental Parts. The website carries parts for various VAG models which ranges from switches, headlights to grills.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also stumbled upon the tailgate garnish in chrome. When installed, it effectively brought out the "blink", making a normal boxy hatchback look more glamorous. It only took 2 weeks for delivery and installation was as simple as using a 3M double sided tape.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I recalled how i conned my wifey in into performing my very first modification to the car on delivery day when the polo was just a few hours old.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">New Tail Gate Garnish to add to the "Blink"</td></tr>

<h3 style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<u><b>Second modification - VW OE Sports pedals</b></u></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Although the interior of the polo looks great with the chrome trimmings on the air on vents and the headlight knobs. However, I still felt that there was something amiss, something lacking to complete the overall look and give it the X factor. Hence, the search was on and I finally came across some accessories on the local forum - Vagsg.com. This website is truly THE site for poisoning all VAG Cars owners. Although there are many workshops featured in this forum and they import parts from Europe for resale locally, there are very limited choices for the Polo 6R.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After hours of surfing, I finally found what I am looking for - The OE sports pedal set for the Polo. It's from a company called Godspeed auto accessories. I called them to make an appointment for the installation the following week. The installation of the pedals was straight pretty forward since it's just a clip on to both the pedals.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, take note that the original brake pedal pad must be removed during the installation of the sports brake pedal. As for the accelerator, it's just clip on. Installation took less then 15 mins.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am pretty satisfied with the outcome - I have successfully made interior slightly more sporty.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPe4Wd4fkNjSzYeZ_83gSxL1P1iLfUvZn1t0z2uU5u-eiu178-PDH1rH9yxf7Q0-Y6DetPk9T367-Cph6Fb1_-C7yCcNuF4ApEagms5wp-xwrSsozGroLLFEY_e2TB8DnPOumKYDT6CtM/s1600/pedals.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPe4Wd4fkNjSzYeZ_83gSxL1P1iLfUvZn1t0z2uU5u-eiu178-PDH1rH9yxf7Q0-Y6DetPk9T367-Cph6Fb1_-C7yCcNuF4ApEagms5wp-xwrSsozGroLLFEY_e2TB8DnPOumKYDT6CtM/s320/pedals.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">VW OE Sports Pedals complete the sporty look</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For those who are keen, Godspeed auto accessories operates at the same location as the local popular workshop, Horizon Auto Tuner. Horizontal auto tuner was started by a couple of enthusiasts offering a one stop service to all VW / Audi cars. And this is also the workshop which helps me in my next up and coming modification: Rear sway bar, flown all the way from Whiteline, Australia.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hmmm..... Upon reflection, the handwork in researching the parts has really paid off in some sense. I am pretty satisfied with the first 2 mods and can't wait to start on my next!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nonetheless, do stay tuned for part 2 in my quest to enhance our "Little Red Riding Hood"! Tada ~~!</div>

<b>Volkswagen Up! featured in World's tightest parallel park</b></h2>
<i> </i><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Repost from <a href="http://www.germancarblog.com/2012/12/vw-up-holder-of-tightest-parallel-parking-record/" target="_blank">German Car Blog</a> : World's tightest parallel park! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><i>VW is now the holder of the tightest parallel parking record.</i></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br />" German stunt driver Ronny Wechselberger managed to slide a Volkswagen Up! into a space of just 12 feet and 0.88 inches. Given that the three-door Up! takes up a full 11 feet and 7.37 inches of space itself, the remaining room front and rear was less than the length of a Bic pen. The margin makes the Mini effort seem down right spacious by comparison. Ronny C’ Rock, as the stuntman is also known, pulled off the feat at Flugplatz Kindel in Eisenach, Germany. "</i></div>

</h2>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
Storage Space in Polo</h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
As we know, the Polo is a sub compact to begin with. Hence, its smaller boot space might be a concern for some car owners. In fact, I have quite a number of stuffs to store in the car and it might a challenging task to fit them in the Polo.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
In order to boost the storage space, the Polo boot is designed as a double layer or "twin level" storage compartment, separated by a fibre board. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
To keep my things organized, I had to scout around for a suitable organizer since the Polo booth compartment does not comes with one. In addition, those featured in the VW catalogue are not cheap either!!</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In case some of you might wonder whether is there a REAL need for an organizer. Ok, I shall illustrate the importance of having one in this simple scenario..<br />
<br />
Imagine this, you are driving your gf, wife or mistress to work...then you ran over some nails or thumbnails and your tyre burst! After some $:)&@$ swearing, you got off the car and then went around to open the car boot to retrieve the spare tyre. Then you realized that the spare tyre is actually stored below the huge stash of stuffs!<br />
<br />
What can you do? you have to patiently unpack and place them somewhere in the backseat or by the roadside in order to reach the spare wheel..... It's kinda messy and silly isn't it?</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With the help of my wifey, we brain stormed where we can find a storage solution that can double up as an organizer for our boot. We called Howard Solution but unfortunately , the profile of the organizer we were looking for is too slim and they do not have any that match our needs.<br />
<br />
In the end, we decided try our luck at TOYOGO, situated in Toa Payoh. TOYOGO specialized in storage solution for home and industrial storage needs.<br />
<br />
We poured through the various catalogs TOYOGO has to offer. In fact, there were so many different types and sizes that we took quite some time to short list the suitable ones.<br />
<br />
Only the following trays are suitable for the lower boot storage compartment of the bottom since they are nearly a perfect fit.</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, another problem soon surfaced. It is pretty noisy When The trays knocked against each other or slide about in the boot compartment especially when the car was negotiating corners.<br />
<br />
The solution to this teething problem is easy though. an anti-slip mat would be able to solve this. in the end, i purchased a big piece of anti-slip mat measuring 100x90cm at less then 20 bucks from HOME FIX store in Tampines 1. I did the same for the upper level of the compartment so that nothing else would slide around in the boot.</div>

Polo first drive</h2>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I shall blog in detail
about our car collection process and my thoughts for the benefit of those who wishes
to know what to expect on the day of car collection. So here it goes..</div>
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a> </h3>
<h3>
Wait for THE call...</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For
us, we waited for the shipment which takes about 2 months. So, we were
really excited when at last, Volkswagen Singapore confirmed the
collection date. My wife and I excitedly met up after work and proceeded
straight to the showroom in Alexander.<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a> </h3>

<h3>
Paper works</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Prior collecting the car, you have to verify the paper works first. Our sales
representative patiently went through the details, car warranty as well
as the checklist with us.<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a> </h3>
</div>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">
<a name='more'></a>Things to take note</h3>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For the
newbies, In case you are unaware, the car warranty is 3 years. And
within that 3 years, you are STRICTLY not supposed to perform any car
modifications as this will void the warranty. The modifications includes
the lowering of the car but doesn't include cosmetic changes such as
changing of car rims.<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a> </h3>
</div>
<h3>
Acceptance Inspection</h3>
Our sales
representative finally declared "Here are the keys to your baby!" and guided us to the delivery bay.<br />
<br />
Our " Red Riding Hood" was there in the delivery bay .... Gleaming
by the delivery bay lights shining on it. Like a little boy who first
got his new toy, I wanted to drive it out of the showroom straight away.<br />
<br />
<div style="float: left; padding-right: 10px;">
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5015657508990840";
/* 300x250 Cleancut */
google_ad_slot = "5541026549";
google_ad_width = 300;
google_ad_height = 250;
//</script>
</div>
<script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript">
</script>
However I managed to clam myself down and went
through the checklist with our sales representative. After inspecting the exterior
paint work, engine bay and the trunk, I got an in depth introduction to
the interior of the car and how each and every switch works. The
inspection went well except for a small scratch to the rim on the left
rear which my eagle eyed wife spotted. This was immediately noted on the
acceptance checklist with Volkswagen Singapore. <br />
<br />
In addition,
the scuff plates and solar film had not been installed in the car. I
inspected the engine bay for any signs of leakage before closing it.
Finally, I started the engines and watched the instrument panel came
alive for the first time. I sat in the driver's sit and closed the
door... Wow!!! What a big difference as compare to my STi.... There was
little noise emitting from the engine, with the leather seats and
powerful stereo!<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a> </h3>
<h3>
First Drive and Performance Review</h3>
I finally get to engage the gear to 'D'... With
no fan fare, the car slowly creeped forward and soon we were on the way
out from the showroom. On the road, the DSG changed the gears seamlessly
while maintaining and low rpm on the way to 90km/h. I noted that as compared to the
STi, the car gives the driver the feedback through the rumbling exhaust
notes. Though this feedback, the driver will have a feel of how fast the
car is traveling on the road. As opposed to the STi, I realised the Polo is so
quiet that very soon, you will find yourself beyond Singapore's
expressway speed limit if you don't have a quick glance at the speedo
meter.<br />
<br />
The steering feedback what you would expect from a well
refined car. Suspension is firm but not uncomfortable however, the car
exhibits a fair bit of body roll. The seating position is very
comfortable for long drive.... in fact, we have clocked about 130km on the
delivery day itself !!<br />
<h3 style="text-align: center;">

<h3>

All in all, I recommend
Polo to any people who is looking for a small family car since this car
is a good buy for its built, quality finishes with affordable road tax
and the very economical fuel consumption to boot!<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, given all the feedbacks and stuff that were said in the local forum, you must be wondering whether if I am crazy to jump onto a VW wagon…anyway.. <br />

<br />
My first car was an Alfa 33, which gave me a lot of heartaches and headaches! Out of 7 days, the car would constantly be in the car workshop for at least 3 days. From simple mechanics to electrical…in fact everything in the car required some repairs. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nonetheless, I found about later that this car was actually involved in an accident so bad that its dashboard had cracked. I wished I been more "street smart" to recognize a lemon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>Second Car - EC Honda Civic</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.hondanews.com/channels/honda-automobiles/archive/1990/photos/1990-honda-civic-3-door-si" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinBIDRFTs2Edg-2r4IZqg74g_JSpQwAYCQAFFtun9lpKM1qAlJeWdRC7NHoNmy678kr12IDuIKOo04Wd44ZcR3wDMzwskgBIKfe8zTzs1VELvpyEmmgXD19G2WhmOho48RUNaxasGZDVI/s320/90CivicSi.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After suffered for over a year and a half, I finally dumped the car and traded it for my second car, a renewed COE EC Honda Civic. Some of you might be wondering why I did not get a new car after such a bad experience.... </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Well, the year was 1999 and back then, a new EK Honda Civic VTi costed close to 140k! Hence, I could not afford a new car at that point in time, especially since I had just started my career. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Alas, even that car was in desperate need of major maintenance overhaul; the auto gearbox could not engage any gear (other than the 1st in 'D' after 3 weeks of driving); the top and bottom engine casket was leaking engine oil; even the fuel filter was somehow split into top and bottom halves. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
True enough, I dumped the car after putting up with it for a year and a half.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>Third Car - EK Honda Civic VTi </b><br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://car-pricenet.com/img/attachments/52/60852_large.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp6WPi8hL1zXJ_aKYQDN6UdYgwy1oNiPr0VrjdY7vRgVbn84f15a1PEwaFxmy2CBj9gXNPUydEIWVO5mc8v3GkkfJpXZAuQvSNNt0f4zn8-jwl8s8Zw9SdCOzjTZbYzio_yXnOcDVuz6c/s320/ek3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I bought my third car through a car resale website…if I remember correctly, there were not many car resales websites back then. Although it was not the full fledged SiR model, I had a lot of plans for this car. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Its performance was superior as compared to a normal family sedan. Then, I started looking at tuners magazine and stuff to find a correct combination for ricer looks. By the way, did I mention that the original color of the car was maroon? Yucks!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
At that time, it was what I can afford, and it looked pretty decent especially since its previous owner was a lady! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, I started off with changing the exhaust, air filter and so on. Later on, I added a set of bodykit, re-sprayed the car to white, drop the ride height and even changed the rims. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, due to my limited knowledge in car mechanics, I spent quite a reasonable sum of money replacing parts that have been changed before. However, this car lasted me for three and half years before I finally fell in love with a MY03 Subaru Impreza STi.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>Forth Car - Subaru Impreza STi</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=115115" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs9sBfGRU2vDPJ-Yl2Bltval12LS3pUGkejrm_SBxl0jh3Fj8N_9d9nWV_lb3ljZEf03ptxlHJwwH_UtEGN-7byColfIUB1x7X6voIA4JB1h5N2Cza81PBr9cxL-VEU6JeIT1jwAUunLQ/s1600/2003_impreza_wrx_sti_2.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The year was 2003. While I was car shopping with a close friend, we came across a Subaru showroom at Ubi Megamart. There it was.... sitting there and my heart melted. At that point in time, I told myself I had to get this car, no matter what. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It took me less than 3 days to bargain with the Sales people for the trade in of my Honda Civic and my parents were only informed about my new car after I had signed the purchase agreement. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nonetheless, the rest is history. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
For the first five years, I did nothing to my new car, except to drop the front ride height. In its stock condition, it was already a joy to drive, with the power on-demand and the experience was way out of this world. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Later on, my brother in law introduced me to the world of car mods and he advised that the right approach is to enhance the power and ride characteristics of this car. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
From the fifth year onwards, many major works have been done to the car. From a stock bhp of 265, I managed to enhance the performance up to 340 bhp as I felt that anything beyond that will be difficult to drive for a local road driving condition. The torque curve has been brought forward and this allowed for a linear acceleration from stop. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, I enjoyed every single moment in my nine years of driving this car. Furthermore, I have many fond memories with it; I met my wife, and got married in this car; we took numerous road trips to Malaysia and it was our daily runabout. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Alas, due to its age and the maintenance considerations, coupled with the recent escalating COE prices, we had to make a decision on whether it was still feasible for me to continue driving it until its tenth year, or whether buying a new car was more cost effective. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAwh3ImCTH1AvZZkwyurXHIQ9E7Oohs115Lu4LrITcTya751tue7RW5orG2F35vtXTmxFFE-IuTByABBwtiHqxlk5Ov1Uxl1np0jPGrGD6cBCTVxYX32p6SowQw13JXfmuHQgEf4zFXI/s1600/vw_logo.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
We concluded that it was more expensive to maintain and the second option was more favorable. Thus we set out to look for our next new ride.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
Sure enough within weeks, we made our way to Volkswagen showroom. Unlike the pervious occasions when I had bought cars without considering the "hidden cost", I was had made a more informed choice after much considerations. After factoring in the low cost of maintenance, durability, road tax, fuel cost and the price and so on, we decided to purchase the Polo Sports. My wife chose the color RED and I went along with her choice.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<b>Yet another exciting journey</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Soon after, she started this blog for me to write and share my experiences with this new car. And so here I am. :) By the way, she even christen this car as "Red Riding Hood"!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In case you might wonder…. until today, we are currently still awaiting the delivery of the car. However, I will soon update this blog with details of its stock handling and how I would like to enhance the handling characteristics and performance. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So stay tuned! <br />

For those who are looking at the local review for Volkswagen Polo Sport 1.2 TSI, this is a fairly good <a href="http://www.burnpavement.com/article.php?id=323" target="_blank">writeup</a> from burnpavement.com.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To summarise, Volkswagen Polo won the 2010 Car of
the Year in the B segment, after putting up with a close fight with Toyota iQ. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Extremely well made with posh and lush interior
finishing, it is a really sight to behold. Furthermore, equipped with a highly
efficient and with torque 1.2 TSI engine, it is - as what my HB has happily
verified - zippy with its fluid shifting seven-speed
DSG which guarantees a smooth driving experience.</div>

Dubmodder™ - Interactive Car Customizer site</h2>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I stumbled upon <a href="http://dubmodder.com/" target="_blank">Dubmodder™</a>, which is an "<em>interactive online tool for customizing your vehicle with genuine aftermarket and OEM automotive parts. Slipstream Studios, a dynamic group of multi-disciplinary individuals who share a love and a passion for the brand. Founded in 2002, Slipstream Studios caters to the automotive industry and the promotion of various car brands. The team has created websites, banners, and print media for aftermarket automotive companies as well as authorized automotive dealerships."</em></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dubmodder™ is a car modding configurator designed for car enthusiasts, by the enthusiasts themselves. the site seems rather promising, will get my HB to check it out tomorrow. :)</div>
